Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be set for a departure from Tottenham in the summer as he’s unhappy with how his role has panned out this season.

According to Football Insider, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is extremely unhappy at Tottenham following how the season has panned out for him. The 28-year-old midfielder wishes to leave the club in the close season as a few clubs are closely monitoring his situation.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to leave Tottenham?

Tottenham indicated they were ready to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last summer, but the midfielder ended up staying in the hope of remaining a mainstay under new boss Ange Postecoglou. Instead, the Australian started the season with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma as his preferred midfielders, leaving the 28-year-old Dane in limbo.

Postecoglou continued with his preferred choices and then pushed Rodrigo Bentancur up the pecking order once he turned up fit. Hojbjerg was left to fight for a place in midfield alongside Oliver Skipp, which contrasts with how important he was as a mainstay in midfield the season before.

He might have had chances to leave in January, but Spurs were then cautious about letting him depart after their main midfielders participated in the AFCON. The 28-year-old looks pretty unhappy at the club and now seeks an imminent exit in the summer.

Tottenham have set an asking price for the defender, as he can still have a meaningful impact elsewhere. Spurs do not want to let him leave on the cheap despite his limited time on the pitch this season. On paper, the 28-year-old has made 34 appearances in all competition, but mainly as a substitute, which has left the Dane unhappy on many counts.

Where can Hojberjg join?

There are quite a few clubs, and it would not surprise if some from the Premier League enter the race for the midfielder. AC Milan are keen on the midfielder, while Juventus has been keeping close tabs on his situation since before the January window.

Hojbjerg can have numerous options to choose from, as he has proven himself a reliable presence at Tottenham over the years. However, much will depend on Spurs’ asking price, which may price out some of the interested clubs. Many will come looking for a cheaper deal owing to his reduced influence in north London.
