Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is reportedly set to leave North London in the summer transfer window as he hunts regular minutes elsewhere.

According to transfer journalist Paul Brown (via GIVEMESPORT),  Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will likely leave Tottenham during the 2024 summer transfer window, with the midfielder looking for regular game time. The journalist adds that “three or four” top European clubs are circling around to land his services.

Tottenham Busy in the Winter

While other Premier League managers were scrambling around for bargain basement loan moves, Tottenham backed Ange Postecoglou in the January market as Radu Dragusin, Timo Werner, and Lucas Bergvall all arrived at the club to bolster the pack.

However, Spurs did not quite offload the fringe-wood on they wanted in January despite bringing in some good signings. A number of Tottenham players also stayed put at the Hotspur Way amid continued reports of interest from elsewhere.

Among them, was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who stayed in North London despite a flurry of clubs apparently being keen on signing him. But as per Brown, Hojbjerg’s exit is “almost certain” anyway in the summer.

Brown told GMS: “I think Hojbjerg is almost certain to leave Tottenham in the summer. He’s been available for the right price in the last two windows. He is willing to move on if a new challenge arises. He is not the first choice in his position, and at this stage of his career, I think he wants to be playing somewhere where he can start week-to-week.

“Three or four massive clubs have been sniffing around him for the last few months, and I think he would jump at the chance to join. None of them were willing to do a permanent deal for the kind of money that Spurs wanted. They were looking at loans primarily, which is not of interest to Tottenham. But I think in the summer that might change. His price will drop slightly because his contract has less time to run, and I think he will likely leave.”

The fact that Hojbjerg has entered the final 18 months of his contract means the speculation is not going away any time soon. Juventus and Napoli were both interested in taking him to Serie A on loan last month. It will be interesting to see if any of the aforementioned sides rekindle their interest in the Dane come summer.

Hojbjerg could be on his way out of the door and is far from being Postecoglou’s first choice, but the Danish midfielder still has a job to do this season. The 28-year-old has already demonstrated the professionalism and skill necessary to step in when needed to see out latter stages of games or to cover for an injury or absence, having featured some part in all but the opening match of the Ange Postecoglou era.
