Manchester United and Aston Villa will reportedly compete with Tottenham for 26-year-old Genoa attacker Albert Gudmundsson.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Albert Gudmundsson is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. However, the North London giants face stiff competition from Manchester United and Aston Villa for the 26-year-old Genoa attacker. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around €30 million to part ways with him.
Who is Albert Gudmundsson?
Albert Gudmundsson has been a top-notch performer since joining Genoa from AZ Alkmaar in January 2022. A native of Reykjavik, he spent most of his formative years in his homeland but ended his youth career in the Netherlands. The Icelandic international represented Heerenveen, PSV Eindhoven, and AZ Alkmaar in the country.
However, the 26-year-old had to wait until he joined Genoa to find a stable footing in his career. Gudmundsson has enjoyed a solid 2023/24 campaign with the Serie A club, contributing to 20 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, having found the back of the net 16 times while providing four assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has alerted top Premier League clubs like Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Manchester United.
A man in demand
Widespread reports have heavily linked Tottenham with Gudmundsson. Ange Postecoglou has preferred versatile attackers in his offensive setup since arriving at the North London club. And with Tottenham unlikely to complete a permanent move for Timo Werner, the Genoa attacker can be Werner’s replacement.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa considered signing Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa ahead of the winter transfer window. However, a move did not materialise, although he remains a viable target for the West Midlands club. With Nicolo Zaniolo unlikely to complete a permanent move to Villa Park, Gudmundsson can be his replacement.
As for Manchester United, Gudmundsson’s versatility means he can be a viable solution for the right-wing berth. The Red Devils have been yearning to find the solution to the long-standing right-wing woes. And the 26-year-old has the quality to be a top addition to the Manchester United squad. Meanwhile, the Icelandic international will only cost around €30 million.
€30 million is an attractive price for a productive and versatile attacker like Gudmundsson. However, Aston Villa and Manchester United have a tall order to usurp Tottenham, even though the former will likely offer him UEFA Champions League football next season.
