West Ham United and Aston Villa are keen on Genoa’s star attacker, Albert Gudmundsson, although might have to wait until the summer.

According to Calcio Mercato, Genoa’s Icelandic attacker Albert Gudmundsson is attracting considerable interest from Premier League sides. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has interest coming from West Ham United and Aston Villa, but the Italian side might look to keep him until the summer.

Premier League clubs will soon begin finalising their plans and looking for the appropriate player to enhance their squads. The current international break, so close to that January window, might give them more time and space to bring insightful data about a said star.

Hence, links to different players in certain positions will grow exponentially between now and the end of January. In the case of Aston Villa and West Ham United, there’s one player that these clubs are looking at very carefully.

Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson emerges as a target for the Premier League duo, with Tottenham interested in the player not so long ago. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder signing a new contract must have put off some of his suitors from the Premier League, but if Genoa gets a reasonable offer, they will consider a sale.

The Serie A side are not overly keen to sell their attacker so soon after signing a new contract. Hence, they should keep hold of him until the summer, when they can place an appropriate price tag. The report states the 26-year-old attacking midfielder must fetch at least €20 million but insists this sum could go much higher if he keeps up with his current form until the summer.

Hence, Aston Villa and West Ham may either have to turn away from the Icelandic star or make a compelling offer for Genoa’s liking. Unai Emery has searched for a new wide attacker but remains open to adding a versatile star who can take fluid roles in his front three.

Recent links to Samuel Iling-Junior are a consequence of his search, and there were others like Nico Williams previously linked with Villa. West Ham are also keen on a versatile attacker after adding what they could during the summer.

David Moyes wants to enhance his options in the attacking areas and would love a player like Gudmundsson. Ideally, the Scottish boss wants a new centre-forward with links to Victor Gyokeres, among others already rife within the media.

However, Gudmundsson’s versatility in all four frontline positions makes him an exciting option. For starters, if needed, he could cover many of West Ham’s attackers, including Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus, and even Michail Antonio.

Any move in January may look dicey, but things could rapidly change with one offer from either Aston Villa or West Ham United. For now, Gudmundsson may stay at the Serie A side, but the new contract could also prove to be a means for Genoa to extract the best possible deal from Premier League sides.
