Manchester United make checks on Jean-Clair Todibo

Manchester United recently dispatched scouts to watch 24-year-old French defender Jean-Clair Todibo against RC Strasbourg.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on HITC, Jean-Clair Todibo is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window and have identified the 24-year-old as one of their top defensive targets. And they recently sent scouts to watch the OGC Nice defender against RC Strasbourg in a Ligue 1 game.

Jean-Clair Todibo and his resurrecting fortunes

Jean-Clair Todibo has resurrected his career since joining OGC Nice from Barcelona. The French international had a lot of hype surrounding him when the Blaugrana signed him from Toulouse in January 2019. However, he struggled to make his mark after a bright start to life as a Barcelona player.

The Catalan outfit loaned him out thrice before OGC Nice completed a permanent move in July 2021, having temporarily signed him in February 2021. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength in the last three years, becoming a mainstay at the back for the Ligue 1 club. Todibo has turned out 133 times thus far for Nice, chipping in with two goals and three assists.

The former Barcelona defender’s progress at OGC Nice has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League might be Todibo’s next adventure, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.

Premier League beckons?

Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Jean-Clair Todibo, having also flirted with the idea of signing him in the winter transfer window. Their eagerness to secure the Frenchman’s signature is understandable, with Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

In addition, Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30, while Victor Lindelof is not good enough to be the first-choice centre-back for Manchester United. Todibo is thus a viable target for Manchester United, with the Red Devils recently dispatching scouts to watch him in a Ligue 1 game against RC Strasbourg.

Recent reports have claimed that OGC Nice might block a summer move for the 24-year-old centre-back. However, Graeme Bailey has suggested that the French defender is the likeliest high-value asset to depart from the Allianz Riviera. So, it will be interesting to see if a move to Manchester United sees the light of day.
