Liverpool trail Juventus in Teun Koopmeiners chase

Liverpool and Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly vying for the signature of Teun Koopmeiners, who will cost around €60 million in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Atalanta, Teun Koopmeiners is the subject of interest from Liverpool. However, the Reds have fallen behind Juventus in the race to sign the Atalanta midfielder. Meanwhile, the Serie A club will demand around €60 million to part ways with the Dutchman in the summer transfer window, although €45-50 million might do the trick.

Teun Koopmeiners: Taking Serie A by storm

Teun Koopmeiners has been one of the best midfielders in Serie A since joining Atalanta from AZ Alkmaar in July 2021. The 26-year-old had spent his formative years and his professional career until 2021 in his homeland. However, he has taken his game up several notches in the last three years.

The Netherlands international has been surprisingly productive thus far this season, contributing to 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. Koopmeiners has found the back of the net 15 times while providing six assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress at Atalanta has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Liverpool and Juventus are among the prospective suitors for the Dutchman heading into the summer transfer window. Other well-known outfits have also shown interest in the Atalanta midfielder. However, Liverpool and Juventus are his likeliest destinations. Meanwhile, La Dea will demand around €60 million to part ways with Koopmeiners.

Big move on the horizon?

Liverpool’s interest in Teun Koopmeiners is understandable. The Merseyside club will likely part ways with Thiago Alcantara in the summer transfer window when his contract expires. So, the Reds need a new midfielder to be the ideal foil to Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. The Atalanta midfielder has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

However, the Premier League heavyweights have fallen behind Juventus in the race to sign the Dutch midfielder. The Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie. So, it behoves Juventus to invest in a world-class midfielder.

Koopmeiners is settled in Serie A and might not take long to find a stable foothold at Juventus. However, the price tag of €60 million might pose problems for the Bianconeri. While the report suggests €45-50 million might be enough to seal the deal, Juventus might struggle to raise that sum. So, Liverpool may have a window of opportunity to steal the Dutchman this summer.
