Chelsea and West Ham United leading Ivan Toney chase

Chelsea and West Ham United are front-runners for the signature of 28-year-old Tottenham target Ivan Toney.

According to a report from TBR, Ivan Toney is expected to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window. While there is a lot of interest in his services from across Europe, Chelsea and West Ham are currently leading the race for the 28-year-old Brentford striker.

Toney has taken his game to another level since making the move to Brentford from Peterborough in the summer of 2020. He has been a consistent performer for them in front of the goal and helped them gain promotion to the Premier League.

Toney to part ways with Brentford

While he has been an integral part of their first team, the 28-year-old is looking to part ways in the summer. With his contract running out in just over 12 months, the Bees don’t really have many options to play with. They will have to sanction his departure as they can’t risk losing out on him for free next summer.

While the Bees have slashed the asking price because of his contract situation, they are still looking for in excess of £50 million. The English international wants to join a bigger club and his representatives are working hard to find him a new club.

Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on his signatures. The North London club are looking for a world-class striker who can help them take the next step. While they are interested in having Toney in their squad, Spurs might not go above £40 million for him.

Chelsea & West Ham are leading the race

Chelsea and West Ham are the most likely destinations for the 28-year-old. The Hammers have been interested in his services for a while now and have made their interest known to people close to the Brentford striker. With Michail Antonio’s future uncertain, Toney could be an ideal replacement.

Meanwhile, the Blues have reignited their interest in his services and they have once again started working on a potential deal. They were interested in him last summer as well but dropped the idea because of the club’s hierarchy’s rule that doesn’t permit the signing of players over 25.

However, it seems the club’s hierarchy is willing to change its stance, they feel his experience could help the youngster around him. While they are leading the race for his signature alongside West Ham, Victor Osimgen is the priority for the London club. If they fail to sign the Napoli star, they could move for the English international.
