Manchester United considering Ivan Provedel swoop

Manchester United are reportedly considering pushing for the services of 30-year-old Lazio shot-stopper Ivan Provedel.

According to a report by Fichajes, Manchester United are looking to reinforce their goalkeeping position in the summer and they have their eyes set on Ivan Provedel. The Red Devils are not entirely convinced by Andre Onana’s performances in goal and considering signing the Lazio shot-stopper.

Provedel has taken his game to another level since joining Lazio in the summer of 2022. He has been a constant feature in their goal and has put in consistent performances over the past two seasons. In the ongoing season, the 30-year-old has featured in 38 matches and has managed to keep a clean sheet on 13 occasions.

Provedel’s impressive performances have put him on the radar of Manchester United, who are seriously considering the idea of signing a goalkeeper in the summer. They are willing to make a significant financial effort to make it happen.

Onana’s inconsistent performances

The Red Devils signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan last summer on the back of his heroics in the Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. They brought in the former Ajax shot-stopper to take over from David de Gea. While a lot was expected from him, Onana has not lived up to the expectations.

He had the worst possible start to life at Old Trafford, and his errors cost Manchester United big time. Onana’s performances have improved in recent months but people at the club are still not convinced about his being their number one. They feel there needs to be enough competition in that position.

Manchester United will push for Provedel’s signature

Manchester United are looking to make another investment to bring in a new goalkeeper, with Andriy Lunin also emerging as a target. They want to sign someone who can compete with the 28-year-old for a place in the starting XI.

Lazio’s Provedel is a name on their wishlist and the Red Devils’ feel he could be an ideal fit for the club. They have been linked with the Italian shot-stopper for some time now. While his contract with the Serie A outfit runs until the summer of 2027, Manchester United are ready to try and prise him away.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if the 30-year-old is ready to make the switch as he is currently an undisputed starter at Lazio. But that might not be the case at the Premier League club.
