Chelsea have contacted Xavi Simons’ agents to convince the 21-year-old about a move in the summer, with Arsenal also keen.
According to Team Talk, Chelsea have touched base with Xavi Simons’ agents before the summer. The Blues are sounding out about a move to Stamford Bridge, but have yet to open any negotiations with PSG, as Arsenal are also keen, but not prioritising a move.
Chelsea keen on Xavi Simons
Chelsea are set for a tricky summer window and will look into the market for some exceptional signings. The club could prioritise quality over quantity, with the latter being an approach taken over the last two years under the new owners. Now, gripping PSR obligations, the Blues are set to adopt a more frugal approach to their spending.
Xavi Simons is a player they want to sign and add to their attacking setup. The 21-year-old Dutchman has excelled during his loan at RB Leipzig with 24 G+A this season and will return to PSG, who signed him for a fee close to 6 million owing to a buy-back clause in his contract.
The Parisians are keen to add him to their squad as they consider him essential for the future. However, they might also consider a sale should a massive offer arrive, and Simons has done well to improve his valuation with the 24 G+A this season. The Parisians have even considered making him part of a deal to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola interested in the 21-year-old Dutchman.
However, Chelsea have touched base with the agents of Simon to sound out a summer move. They have yet to open any talks with PSG, as convincing the Parisians will be tricky since they have all the power to decide his future. For now, the Blues are interested but will be wary of a heavy asking price, with several other sides also keen.
Arsenal also in the race for Simons
Arsenal are also keen on Simons, as Mikel Arteta is looking for a young player with a higher ceiling who would improve their attacking depth. For now, Simons may not be of the calibre to replace anyone in the current Gunners starting lineup, although he could replace one of Reiss Nelson or Emile Smith-Rowe should the club decide to part ways with one of those academy stars.
Arsenal’s pursuit is not considered significant, suggesting they could cool their interest in the Dutchman. If he becomes available, the Gunners will undoubtedly show their intention to bring him, although much will depend on the guarantees they can provide to convince the player and PSG.
