Liverpool closing in on signing Piero Hincapie

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defensive sensation Piero Hincapie.

According to a report by Fichajes, Liverpool are making moves to strengthen their defence ahead of next season, and they closing in on the signatures of Piero Hincapie. The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender has been in exceptional form, and the Reds feel he could be an ideal fit for their team.

Hincapie joined the German club from Argentine outfit CA Talleres in the summer of 2021, and he has not looked back since. The Ecuadorian international has taken his game to another level under the guidance of Xabi Alonso and has played a big part in their dominant run this season.

Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in all competitions. They have already won the Bundesliga and are on course for another two major titles this season. Hincapie has played a big part in it. He has been a rock at the back and his leadership abilities have helped them on and off the pitch.

He penned down a new deal with the Bundesliga club at the start of last year, and his contract now runs until the summer of 2027. Despite that he could be on the move in the summer given the amount of interest in his services.

Liverpool pushing hard for Hincapie’s signatures

Liverpool are willing to go all out to sign the 22-year-old centre-back. The Reds are looking to reinforce their defence to ensure they have enough quality as well as depth to fight for all major titles next season.

While they do have Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté in their ranks, they still feel the need to strengthen the back line in the short term. They feel the Ecuadorian international could help them in the short as well as the long term. As a result, they are pushing hard for his signatures.

The English giants are in advanced talks to sign the 22-year-old. They have already made major moves and the report suggests the transfer could be completed for a fee of €55 million. While the Reds need to ensure they keep their finances in check, the Merseyside club are willing to make an economic effort to bring Hincapie to Anfield.
