PSG will reportedly prioritise signing 16-year-old Spanish international Lamine Yamal from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by French outlet Le Parisien, Lamine Yamal is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The reigning Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for a young attacker to fill Kylian Mbappe’s shoes in the summer transfer window. And they have identified the 16-year-old Barcelona wonderkid as their priority target.

The quick advent of Lamine Yamal

Lamine Yamal has established himself as one of the best young players in the world since breaking into the first-team squad at FC Barcelona. The Esplugues de Llobregat native did not generate much hype during his time in La Masia. However, his exploits for the senior side have raised eyebrows across Europe.

The 16-year-old is already a pivotal figure for Barcelona despite still being in his teens. In addition, he has made his debut for Spain, turning out six times for La Roja. Yamal is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 campaign with Barcelona, contributing to 14 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net six times while providing eight assists.

Meanwhile, Yamal’s progress at the club and international levels has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. However, a move to Paris might be on the cards, with Le Parisien pointing to PSG dreaming about signing the 16-year-old Barcelona wonderkid in the summer transfer window.

PSG interested in Yamal

PSG’s interest in Lamine Yamal is understandable. The Ligue 1 champions are in a spot of bother over the long-term future of Kylian Mbappe. The French international will likely leave Les Parisiens as a free agent in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid closing in on signing him.

Mbappe’s departure will leave a gaping hole in the PSG attack, thus necessitating the addition of a world-class prospect who can grow into the role at Parc des Princes. Yamal is thus a viable target for PSG, with the French heavyweights identifying the 16-year-old Spanish international as their priority summer target.

However, a summer departure from Barcelona is highly unlikely despite the Catalan club’s crippling financial situation, considering his growing stature. So, PSG will have to look elsewhere for an offensive reinforcement in the summer transfer window.
