Manchester United have reportedly registered their interest in 25-year-old Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Claro Sports, Jhon Lucumi is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils have already expressed their interest in the 25-year-old centre-back. Meanwhile, the Bologna defender is also a top target for Atletico Madrid and Juventus heading into the summer transfer window.

Who is Jhon Lucumi?

Jhon Lucumi has established himself as one of the best defenders in Serie A since joining Bologna from KRC Genk in August 2022. The Colombian international spent his formative years in his homeland before arriving in Europe half a dozen years ago by moving to KRC Genk in July 2018.

As for Lucumi’s stint with Bologna, he has turned out 60 times thus far for the Rossoblu, chipping in with two assists. The 25-year-old has played his part in Thiago Motta’s team rising to fourth in the Serie A standings after an excellent 2023/24 campaign thus far. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed.

Widespread reports have linked Lucumi with several well-known clubs for several years. Heading into this summer’s transfer window, Manchester United might be one of the front-runners to land him after expressing their interest in him. But the Red Devils face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Jhon Lucumi is understandable. The Premier League club might part ways with Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans in the summer transfer window. In addition, Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30 and will not be a long-term solution for Manchester United.

Lucumi has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. As iterated earlier, the Red Devils have expressed their interest in the 25-year-old Colombian international.

The report does not mention a price tag. However, Bologna will likely demand a premium to part ways with the player, considering the team’s position in the Serie A standings, while his contract runs out in a little over two years. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United can secure Lucumi’s services in the coming months.
