Fabrizio Romano casts doubts on Ferland Mendy’s immediate future at Real Madrid amid Premier League and Alphonso Davies links.

Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside weighed in on Ferland Mendy’s immediate future at Real Madrid amid Premier League links. The Journalists think the 28-year-old defender might depart the Santiago Bernabeu if the reported arrival of Alphonso Davies turns out accurate.

Ferland Mendy to quit Real Madrid?

Ferland Mendy seems to have overcome his niggling injury problems to make a mark again for Real Madrid this season. His contract expires in 2025, which will make or break his time at the club, with Real Madrid seemingly ready to sell him should a big offer arrive on their doorsteps.

Mendy’s contractual situation makes it likely for the defender to leave instead of others like Fran Garcia. The latter has also impressed me and can become a long-term option for the club. However, with Real Madrid closing in on Alphonso Davies in the summer, the Canadian’s arrival will all but end Mendy’s time, as the 28-year-old will demand regular game time, which may not be possible next season.

Mendy may want to continue his career at this illustrious club, but he sees the options opening up in the market for his signature. Some Premier League sides and others are linked with a move, with his future up in the air as things stand.

Fabrizio Romano weighed in his thoughts on the defender’s immediate future as he cast doubts, insisting the 28-year-old might depart in the close season. He also spoke about the potential arrival of Davies as a significant factor and that Real Madrid cannot go into a season with three important left-backs.

Romano said, “One story I’ve spoken about a lot here is the one involving Alphonso Davies. While there’s no update to speak of on his future yet, there have been stories involving Ferland Mendy possibly leaving Real Madrid that I thought I’d clarify,”

“L’Equipe have linked Mendy with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, but my understanding is that his future is still open – he could be sold or even sign a contract extension.

“Still, Real Madrid can’t enter the new season with Mendy, Fran Garcia and also Davies. So obviously, if they sign Davies it is because a left-back has to leave. Let’s see if it’s Mendy or not. Real Madrid would only sign Davies now if they sell a left-back.”

Mendy has Premier League interest

Manchester United are one of the clubs interested in the 28-year-old, while there’s ample interest coming from many other sides. The Red Devils might dispense off with Tyrell Malacia and bring in competition for the frequently injured Luke Shaw.

The Red Devils face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool, with either side looking at an experienced left-back to add to their squad next season. Hence, should the 28-year-old leave Real Madrid, England can become his next destination, given the quality of interest from the Premier League.
