Santiago Gimenez ready to leave Feyenoord amid Arsenal links

Santiago Gimenez looks likely to leave Feyenoord in the summer amid links with big clubs in the top five leagues, including Arsenal.

According to Record, Santiago Gimenez might lean towards leaving Feyenoord in the close season as he wants a new challenge in one of the top five leagues. Arsenal are reportedly one of the clubs keen on the North American striker, with the report also suggesting Atletico Madrid and Juventus as contenders.

Arsenal boosted in Santiago Gimenez’s pursuit

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker as Mikel Arteta probably wants to add a prolific name to his strike force. Many options have been discussed, including Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, Brentford’s Ivan Toney, and Genoa’s Joshua Zirkzee.

From these links, it is clear that Arsenal are willing to spend big on the new striker, and now there are credible links to Santiago Gimenez. The North American striker, who has 24 goals this season, has been a star for Feyenoord over the last two seasons, even helping the Rotterdam club win the Eredivisie title last time out.

He has had another prolific season, with the Mexican international now intent on leaving the Eredivisie side for a challenge in one of Europe’s top-five leagues. There is significant Premier League interest, including from Arsenal, who might see his decision as a boost to their hopes of signing him.

Feyenoord were set to hold discussions with his agent to find out if they could extend his stay here, but things look out of their hands. Hence, Arsenal could have a significant opportunity to sign him if they offer the right money, and the player would like to move to north London in the close season.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also rivals

Real Madrid and Barcelona had credible links. But Los Blancos do not feel he is ready to play for them yet. At the same time, the Blaugrana are embroiled in financial problems because they cannot afford the Mexican international. Atletico Madrid have emerged as a suitor for Gimenez, while Juventus are also in the hunt.

Incidentally, Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic remains linked with Arsenal, which could potentially see them targeting Gimenez as a replacement. Atletico Madrid are looking for a new forward who can bring in goals consistently, with the Mexican seemingly open to playing in Spain.
