Arsenal are ready to sanction the departure of their 27-year-old Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus in the upcoming transfer window.

According to David Ornstein via GiveMeSport, Arsenal could look to part ways with Gabriel Jesus in the summer. The 27-year-old striker has had a significant deep in form in the ongoing season and with the Gunners keen on signing a new number nine, they might look to offload the Brazil international.

Gabriel Jesus’ time at Arsenal

Jesus came up the ranks at Palmeiras before making a name for himself at Manchester City. Arsenal forked out £45 million to sign the striker from Pep Guardiola’s team. He was expected to be the leader of their young attack.

The 27-year-old had a decent first season where he featured in 26 league games and contributed towards 17 goals (11 goals & 6 assists). In the ongoing season, he only has four goals and three assists in his 22 league outings.

Moreover, he has struggled with injuries. As a result, Ornstein feels the Brazil international’s time at Arsenal could come to an end this season. With the Gunners on the lookout for a world-class striker, they could look to sell him.

Ornstein while speaking about Jesus on the Athletic FC podcast said: “Gabriel Jesus, has time moved past him at Arsenal? Because he’s been suffering from this recurring knee injury, or multiple injuries.

“His goal output is not what he would expect or Arsenal would expect. And we know he’s capable of those amazing moments like Manchester United at home this season.

“But they’ve become so infrequent that if Arsenal are going to be bringing in a top level striker, you do imagine that they would have to at least consider any outside interest in Gabriel Jesus. Even if it doesn’t materialise, even if you know, he gets fit and shows his versatility, because he can also play wide… these are serious questions that need to be answered.”

Arsenal’s pursuit of a striker could lead to Jesus’ departure

The North London club have made significant progress under Mikel Arteta. But, they feel the need for a new world-class striker to help them take the next step. Arteta needs a striker who can guarantee goals up top. As a result, they have been scouting multiple top-quality strikers.

If they do end up signing a high-profile forward in the summer, they will look to consider offers for Jesus. While he still has years left in him, the arrival of a new number nine will see him go down the pecking order.

Meanwhile, the North London club will prefer cashing in on him in order to keep their finances in check. While it is still not clear whether they are actively looking to offload the 27-year-old, Ornstein believes they will have to consider offers for the services of Jesus.
