Newcastle United are front-runners for the signatures of 25-year-old Liverpool and Tottenham defensive target Lloyd Kelly.
According to a report by HITC, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all keen on acquiring the services of Lloyd Kelly. The 25-year-old is expected to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window and all three are pushing for his signatures but it seems the Magpies are leading the race at this point in time.
Kelly joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2019 and has featured in 136 matches for them. While injuries have troubled him in the ongoing season, the 25-year-old has been an integral part of the Cherries first team over the years.
Liverpool and Tottenham keen on Kelly’s signatures
But, it seems his time at the club could end in the summer. His contract with the club runs out at the end of the season and as per the report, he has rejected Bournemouth’s latest renewal offer. The deal would have made him one of the highest earners in the club and turning it down might mean, the 25-year-old is looking to make a move.
There is interest in his services from Liverpool and Tottenham. Both clubs want to reinforce their defence ahead of next season. The Merseyside club want a left-footed centre-back to add depth to their ranks while Spurs are looking at opportunities to further bolster their defence having already made a few key additions in the recent past.
Newcastle leading the race for the 25-year-old
While both the English giants are pushing hard for his signatures, Newcastle seem to be the one leading the race for the services of the 25-year-old defender who can feature in the heart of the defence as well as a left-back.
Injuries to Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles have become a big headache for Eddie Howe. The duo have suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries which have already ended their season.
They could be out from the initial months of next season as well. While they have coped well for now, the Magpies have made it a priority to sign a new centre-back. They could even push for multiple signings at the back.
As per the report, Lloyd Kelly is a top target and they are closing in on his signatures. Newcastle are favourites to sign him and if all goes to plan, the 25-year-old could join them for free in a few month’s time.
