La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Leon Goretzka from Bundesliga club Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Leon Goretzka is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder has thus emerged as a target for the Blaugrana.

Leon Goretzka and his Bayern Munich journey

Leon Goretzka has been a regular feature in the middle of the park for Bayern Munich since arriving from FC Schalke 04 in July 2018. A former trainee at VfL Bochum, the German midfielder rose in prominence during his stint with Schalke. However, he departed the club as a free agent nearly half a dozen years ago, antagonising the fans.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed tremendous success at Bayern Munich, winning five Bundesliga titles and one UEFA Champions League apart from other trophies. Meanwhile, Goretzka has had a decent 2023/24 campaign, contributing to 14 goals in 35 appearances, finding the back of the net four times and providing ten assists.

However, Goretzka’s long-term future at Bayern Munich is uncertain, with the Bavarian giants keen on rebuilding their squad after a disastrous 2023/24 campaign. Nevertheless, his stock remains high, with Barcelona considering signing him from the outgoing Bundesliga champions in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona calling?

Barcelona’s interest in Leon Goretzka is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. While Barcelona would prefer a holding midfielder, the German international has the qualities to do the required job in the middle of the park.

The Bayern Munich midfielder is not the only player on Barcelona’s radar, with recent reports linking the club with Amadou Onana. While the Everton star can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park for Barcelona, Goretzka will bring a winning mentality to the squad.

So, the 28-year-old multi-time Bundesliga winner is a viable target for Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Goretzka’s stint with Bayern Munich ends in the coming months.
