Monchi is reportedly pushing Aston Villa to sign 22-year-old Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee from Serie A club Bologna in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Joshua Zirkzee is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are in the market for an attacker heading into the summer transfer window. And Monchi is driving the Midlands club’s move for the 22-year-old Bologna striker.
Joshua Zirkzee and his rise at Bologna
Joshua Zirkzee has established himself as one of the best young strikers in Serie A since joining Bologna from Bayern Munich in August 2022. The Dutchman could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at the Allianz Arena and needed to leave the Bavarian giants to find a stable footing in his career.
The 22-year-old took some time to get going but has played his part in Bologna vying for a top-four finish in Serie A. The youngster has contributed to 17 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net 11 times while providing six assists.
Meanwhile, Zirkzee’s progress at Bologna FC has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with several bigwigs showing interest in him. However, his next destination might be Aston Villa and not a ‘Big Six’ club.
Aston Villa want Zirkzee
Aston Villa recently joined the race to sign Joshua Zirkzee. The Villans have a top-class striker in the squad, with Ollie Watkins being among the most prolific attackers in the world this season. So, Aston Villa’s interest in the Bologna striker might be surprising at first glance.
However, Jhon Duran faces an uncertain future at Villa Park after coming close to leaving the Midlands club in the winter transfer window. Zirkzee has thus emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, with the latest report revealing that Monchi is pushing them to sign the 22-year-old from the Serie A outfit.
Monchi has overseen the transformation of Aston Villa from a lower mid-table club to Premier League top-four contenders under Unai Emery. So, it is hardly surprising that the Dutchman has emerged as a target for Aston Villa due to Monchi’s influence.
