Luis Diaz demands a new Liverpool contract

Luis Diaz has had a mixed season, although there are no questions about his form on the pitch. The kidnapping of his parents earlier in the campaign did put the spotlight on the 27-year-old Liverpool star, but he has since recovered and powered the club towards a title challenge in the Premier League.

He has had a decent season regarding goals and assists, with 17 goals in all competitions. With his father’s recent comments about a dream move to La Liga, Diaz has seen links to many clubs, including Paris Saint-German and La Liga.

Liverpool have already told Barcelona that Diaz is not for sale, although their big problem could be Real Madrid. Quite why Florentino Perez wants another winger remains the question, considering they are close to signing Kylian Mbappe, and the Frenchman is why PSG are angling a move for Diaz.

Diaz is reportedly committed to Liverpool but wants a new contract, as he and his camp feel his form warrants a new agreement. This is an additional problem for Michael Edwards to solve ahead of taking over the club’s football operations, as the new chief already has some key decisions, including making his mind up on new deals for some of their existing stars.

Are Liverpool concerned about Luis Diaz?

As things stand, Liverpool have all the power in deciding the future of the 27-year-old star. Diaz still has three years to run on his current deal, meaning the Merseysdidfers are not overly concerned about watching him leave in a hurry and on his terms.

Irrespective of what the player wants or his demand for a new contract, Liverpool are not about to rush into making a decision. They will surely evaluate his situation in the summer, but whether they are open to offering him a new deal that would surely come with a heavy salary increase demand remains the question.
