Liverpool could make a surprise move for the services of the 25-year-old Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards.

According to a report by GiveMeSport, Liverpool could end up making a surprise move to sign Marcus Edwards in the upcoming transfer window. The Reds are still looking to figure out who their next boss will be but in the meantime, they are also planning to reinforce their squad ahead of next season.

Ruben Amorim to replace Jurgen Klopp?

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to part ways with Liverpool at the end of the season came as a surprise to one and all. But, the German manager did give the Reds enough time to prepare for life without him.

They were keen on having Xabi Alonso on their bench. But, since he has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen, they are now looking at Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim to take over from the German manager.

The 39-year-old has done wonders at the Portuguese club and he is considered to be the Reds’ priority target. If he does end up making a move to Anfield, they could end up pushing for the services of Marcus Edwards.

Things might not have worked out for Edwards at Tottenham but he has managed to revive himself since joining Sporting CP. He has been a consistent performer for them. The 25-year-old winger has 14 goal contributions in the ongoing season and his performances have attracted a lot of interest.

Amorim could bring Edwards to Liverpool

Reports in Portugal suggest that if Amorim leaves at the end of the season, a few of his players could follow him. Edwards could be one of the players who joins him at Liverpool as he has a desire to return to England.

He has a £52 million release clause in his deal which means the Reds could prise him away without much difficulty. The 25-year-old plays in a similar role to that of Mohamed Salah. The Egypt international has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. And, if he does end up leaving the club, they could look at the former Tottenham winger as his replacement.

While Edwards might not be as good as Salah, he can surely help them cope with his absence. And, if Amorim is the one who takes charge at Liverpool, the move will surely make sense as he is well-adjusted to the 39-year-old manager’s style of play.
