Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 23-year-old Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A report from Give Me Sport has claimed that Arsenal are now ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Joao Gomes. The 23-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has been the subject of speculation in the last few weeks.

Gomes established himself as an important player for Wolves, and he could improve both clubs in the middle of the park. The Brazilian midfielder will be looking to take the next step in his development, and joining a big club will be quite tempting for him. Arsenal and Manchester United are his prospective suitors.

Arsenal managed to compete for the league title last season, and they are on top of the standings this year as well. They could provide him with the platform to compete for major trophies.

The Gunners need to find a quality replacement for Jorginho in the summer, and Gomes certainly fits the profile. Thomas Partey has had his fair share of injury problems as well. Meanwhile, Manchester United need to bring in a quality central midfielder as well and have their sights set on the 23-year-old.

The Red Devils need to bring in an upgrade on players like Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils can attract the 23-year-old to Old Trafford if they cannot offer him Champions League football next season. Manchester United have had a mediocre campaign so far, and it is highly unlikely that they will be able to secure a top-four finish.

Gomes would improve both teams

Joao Gomes could form a quality partnership with Declan Rice at Arsenal and similarly, he could be the ideal partner for Casemiro at Manchester United as well. It will be interesting to see where the 23-year-old midfielder ends up eventually.

The Brazilian is still quite young, and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. Joining a big club could accelerate his development. He would get to train under top class managers and play alongside quality players. Meanwhile, Wolves are likely to demand a premium for their prized prospect, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal and Manchester United are ready to pay up.
