Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United are all set to rival Manchester United in their pursuit of the services of Wolves skipper Max Kilman.
According to a report by HITC, Manchester United are keen on having Max Kilman in their ranks as they look to bolster their defence ahead of next season. While the Red Devils are pushing for his signatures, they will face competition from Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United.
Max Kilman’s impressive rise and Manchester United’s interest
Kilman has gone from strength to strength since arriving at Wolves in the summer of 2018. He has established himself as one of the mainstays of the Premier League club and has been their skipper since the departure of Ruben Neves.
In the ongoing season, he has featured in all 30 of their Premier League games for Gary O’Neil’s side. He has played each and every minute of the games. The 26-year-old centre-back has been a standout performer for his team, and his performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs in the country.
Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on his signatures. The Red Devils have been scouting him since the turn of the year, and they are quite impressed with what they have seen from him. Erik ten Hag’s team are prioritising reinforcing their defence in the summer on the back of an injury-riddled season. And, they feel Kilman is an ideal fit for their team.
Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle United to compete with Manchester United for Max Kilman
Manchester United will face competition from Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United, who have also scouted the Wolves skipper in the initial months of 2024. The Magpies have already suffered two major blows in the heart of the defence, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles picking up ACL injuries.
The duo could be out until 2025, and as a result, they are interested in Kilman’s services. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are yet to decide on the future of Clement Lenglet, who is on loan from Barcelona. They do not have a buy option, and if they cannot strike a deal for his services, they could push for the Wolves captain.
Chelsea are also monitoring Max Kilman and could present him with an opportunity to return to his local club. With Thiago Silva potentially leaving, the 26-year-old could take his place in the squad.
Wolves’ stance on Kilman’s future
As far as Wolves are concerned, they have no intentions of letting him leave. With his contract running until 2028, the Premier League club have informed his agents that they want him at the club for another season at least. They already rejected an offer worth £30 million from Napoli 12 months ago, and only a much higher than that could force them into thinking.
