Chelsea might reject all offers for their captain, Reece James, amid suggestions they were prepared to sell him.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea will not entertain any offers coming for captain Reece James in the summer. The injury-ravaged right-back has been linked with Real Madrid, while other clubs could also made their presence felt should the Blues consider selling him. But that does not appear to be the case.
Chelsea will not sell Reece James
Chelsea chiefs have been extremely patient with Reece James since handing him a lucrative long-term deal at the club. Injuries have taken over the 24-year-old’s time at Stamford Bridge in the last two seasons. In the 2022/23 campaign, James only made 16 appearances and this term, he has made only half so far and is likely to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the troublesome hamstring.
Whether he returns next season and stays injury-free remains the question, as there have been plenty of rumours about Chelsea’s apparent plans to sell him. Reports have stated they were planning to offer James to Real Madrid for Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to pay a decent fee should they get the green light to acquire James. However, Chelsea have now shelved their plans to let go of the 24-year-old target, with suggestions they will reject all offers for the club captain.
Chelsea fear fan backlash should they sell James, who remains a favourite of the Stamford Bridge crowd. They would ideally make a handsome profit from his sale, which would massively help them with their FFP obligations, although that idea may be out of the door.
Chelsea still plan on selling homegrown stars
Chelsea’s finances would have a big say in their summer transfer window activity. The Blues already have plans in place to make considerable sales, particularly those of some homegrown academy stars like Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, and Ian Maatsen.
The big sale might come in the form of midfielder Conor Gallagher, who has been one of their best performers in an otherwise dismal season. With the funds from those stars, Chelsea might make a significant foray into the market for a new striker, midfielder and a few defenders.
