Borussia Dortmund are only willing to spend a fee in the region of €30 million to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United this summer.

According to a report from German outlet Sport Bild, as relayed by Buli News, Borussia Dortmund are eager to retain Jadon Sancho beyond his loan spell. But there have set a limit to what they can fork out to land him permanently from Manchester United.

The report states that BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl would only be able to splash a fee of around €30 million on the Englishman, whose €18 million-a-year wages also pose a problem for the Bundesliga club .

Jadon Sancho on the Manchester United chopping block

Given how poorly Manchester United have performed this season, it is evident that new co-owners INEOS will need to shuffle the pack in their first transfer window itself. A host of positions on the pitch are in need of reinforcements. But due to FFP concerns, the club will first have to focus on selling well in order to raise capital.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is already reportedly planning a summer clearout with over 10 players set to depart, and this list includes players who are out on loan like Jadon Sancho. The England international was supposed to shine this season after Erik ten Hag’s support in the previous campaign. But the relationship between the pair hit rock bottom quite early on in the season.

The Dutchman accused the former Manchester City academy product of not giving it his best in training and hence excluded him from the matchday squad against Arsenal. The forward didn’t cover himself in much glory, releasing a social media statement accusing ten Hag of using him as a scapegoat, leading to his return to Signal Iduna Park in January.

Borussia Dortmund want a bargain deal for Sancho

Sancho is due to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season. But it is thought he will want to leave due to his strained relationship with ten Hag unless the Dutchman leaves. Sancho has quickly become an important player for Dortmund and was in the starting lineup when they beat arch-rivals Bayern Munich 2-0 on Sunday.

Sancho has also helped improve Dortmund’s chances of getting into the Champions League next season, with Dortmund now fourth in the Bundesliga. The winger played a big part in Dortmund’s Champions League Last 16 victory over PSV Eindhoven, while he has contributed with two goals and provided two assists in 11 appearances for the Black and Yellows so far.

Although Dortmund are desperate to keep hold of his services, they do not want to exceed the €30 million budget limit for the player, which is not believed to be enough to convince Manchester United of the move.

According to the report, Sancho would also have to accept a salary of around half the €18 million (plus bonuses) he is presently making at Old Trafford, which could prove to be yet another obstacle.
