Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been linked with a permanent move away from the club ahead of the summer.

A report from Daily Mail has claimed that Manchester City will sell Kalvin Phillips for a fee of around £30 million. They paid £45 million for the former Leeds United midfielder but are unlikely to be able to recoup that kind of money for him.

The England international has been a major flop since his move to Manchester City, and he has been loaned out to West Ham United so that he can get back to his best. The loan spell at the London club has not worked out so far, and his performances have been rather underwhelming.

Phillips is expected to return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal. West Ham want to replace him with Mandela Keita. Manchester City should look to sell him permanently and invest in a quality defensive midfielder who can support Rodri.

Kalvin Phillips needs a fresh start

Phillips needs a fresh start as well, and a permanent exit from Manchester City would be ideal for him. He was regarded as one of the finest defensive midfielders in the league during his time at Leeds United. The Englishman was a key player for club and country back then.

Kalvin Phillips will be desperate to cement his place in the England starting lineup ahead of the European Championships. But that seems quite unlikely given his performances this season. He has barely had any opportunities and has failed to make his mark at West Ham.

It will be interesting to see if any club is willing to pay £30 million for a player who has not been at his best for a while now. Phillips is unlikely to get any better at this stage of his career either, and signing him could prove to be a gamble. It remains to be seen how the situation develops. But former club Leeds United are keen.

Manchester City need to add more quality and depth in the middle of the park. Signing another quality defensive midfielder should be one of their top priorities, and they need to bring in an upgrade on Phillips.
