Barcelona have put their foot on the accelerator as they look to beat Chelsea in their pursuit of the services of Estevao Willian.

According to a report by the Mirror, Barcelona are looking to hijack Chelsea’s deal for Brazilian attacking sensation Estevao Willian. The teenager has made quite a name for himself and two of Europe’s giants are all set to square up against each other for his signatures.

Estevao Willian’s impressive rise

Willian has come up the ranks at Palmeiras after joining them in 2021. He was promoted to their first team at the start of the year. While he only has five first-team appearances, the 16-year-old has already made a name for himself thanks to his performances at the youth level for club and country.

The right winger is considered to be one of the best upcoming talents from South America and multiple top clubs have been closely monitoring his progress. Chelsea are one of the clubs that are quite keen on having him in their ranks.

The Blues have been focused on singing young players post their takeover. They have already signed some of the best talents and are looking to carry on in a similar fashion. The London club have been working on a move for the teenager since October.

They are hoping to reach an agreement with Palmeiras which will see the right-winger join them after his 18th birthday. While Chelsea are working on it, Barcelona are looking to hijack the deal.

The Catalan giants are quite impressed with the 16-year-old’s progress and want to bring him to Spain. They have stepped up their interest in him.

They have been making progress behind the scenes during discreet talks with the player’s representatives. The Spanish giants are slowly growing in confidence about acquiring his services and beating Chelsea to his signatures.

There is a release clause worth £51 million in his current contract but neither of the clubs are looking to trigger it given their current financial situation. As a result, other clubs could jump in but at this stage, Barcelona look set to hijack the deal.
