Newcastle United are reportedly keen on Alexander Nubel as their next goalkeeper, although Bayern Munich could complicate the deal.

According to HITC, Newcastle United are interested in a move for Alexander Nubel ahead of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old has been impressing while on loan at VfB Stuttgart. But Bayern Munich could complicate any move from the Magpies by offering a new deal.

Newcastle United interested in Alexander Nubel

A few years ago, Alexander Nubel created a storm by moving from Schalke to rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer. His former side were desperate for their product to sign a new contract so as to achieve some value. But the 27-year-old cannot be blamed as the Bavarians were then looking to bring competition for Manuel Neuer.

Neuer has kept his position, and Nubel, despite being on Bayern’s books for many years now, has only played a handful of games for the club. With a year left on his contract and the summer transfer window open, there is a big possibility for the keeper to leave amid Premier League interest.

Newcastle United are keen on signing the keeper and would make a move for the 27-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £8.5 million in the current market. The Magpies are looking at an alternative to Nick Pope, with Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale also considered a target.

They want a ball-playing keeper who is good with his feet, and Nubel certainly fits the bill. Newcastle United might be monitoring other options too, which could see them have many names on their list. But the potential availability of the 27-year-old from Bayern Munich and his price tag could make things interesting for the Magpies.

Bayern Munich could scupper Newcastle’s Nubel move

Bayern Munich have opted to send Nubel out on multiple loans, with the 27-year-old making more than 100 appearances during his time at AS Monaco and now VfB Stuttgart. However, the Bavarians could have other plans that could scupper any move from the Magpies for the German stopper.

Bayern Munich could still offer Nubel a new deal to ward off suitors and give him a deserved chance to prove his worth. From the player’s point of view, he could still fulfil his dream of succeeding Neuer when he retires, although the veteran has not shown any signs of slowing down despite being a year out with a broken leg.
