Manchester United are one of the clubs keen on Bologna’s Colombian defender Jhon Lucumi, valued at €20 million.
According to Fichajes, Manchester United are showing an interest in Jhon Lucumi ahead of the summer window. The Bologna defender has attracted the attention of several other clubs, although the Red Devils view him as part of their defensive restructure ahead of next season.
Manchester United interested in Jhon Lucumi
Manchester United are eyeing a series of changes to their backline ahead of the summer, with INOES likely to get aggressive in the market to achieve their targets. Irrespective of whether Erik ten Hag stays at the club, they need several defensive additions.
As part of their requirements, the Red Devils may look at a new left-footed centre-back, primarily as a cover for Lisandro Martinez. They have now set sights on Jhon Lucumi, the 25-year-old South American defender playing for Bologna. The Serie A side wants €20 million to sell him in the summer, which Manchester United will end up negotiating.
The club will be mindful of their spending before the summer, considering their bulk requirement in the window. Signing a left-footed defender would be on their agenda, especially after the injury-ravaged season Martinez has had so far. They have plenty of other right-footed options, but the team needs to cover the right profile for the position.
Atletico Madrid are also considering a move, with Diego Simeone eyeing the 25-year-old South American defender as a replacement for Mario Hermoso, who will leave the club on a free transfer. Manchester United will have to make a swift move for the Colombian, and open talks with Bologna over the price.
Manchester United’s defensive restructure
When the summer window opens, a host of their current defenders might be shown the door, with Rafael Varane already contemplating his future. The Frenchman’s contract expires in the summer, and he could have the company of Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof, with the dup also expected to depart.
Manchester United have maintained a stance on Harry Maguire, although should the defender feel his place is threatened and marginalised, he could leave, too. Hence, as things stand, the Red Devils could have only Martinez as part of their central defensive group, which indicates significant changes to their defence in the summer.
