Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Dutch-born Turkish playmaker Orkun Kokcu in the summer transfer window.
According to Turkish journalist Koray Baloglu, Orkun Kokcu is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a box-to-box midfielder in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Benfica will demand around €40 million to part ways with the Dutch-born Turkish playmaker.
Who is Orkun Kokcu?
Orkun Kokcu has been among the most exciting midfielders in Europe for several years. A native of Haarlem, the 23-year-old represented five clubs during his youth career, graduating from the Feyenoord youth division. He rose in prominence during his stint with the first-team squad at the Dutch club.
The Dutch-born playmaker also represented Feyenoord as the club captain before departing last summer. Benfica signed him in a deal worth around €25 million, and the deal has worked well for all parties. Kokcu has amassed three goals and ten assists in 34 appearances across all competitions thus far this term.
But Kokcu’s long-term future at Benfica is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window. Several high-profile clubs are keen on signing him, while the Portuguese giants want to make a profit on their investment from last summer, demanding €40 million to part ways with him. Manchester United are among his prospective suitors.
Manchester United Calling?
Manchester United considered signing Orkun Kokcu from Feyenoord last summer. But a move did not materialise, with Benfica securing his services. The continued interest in the Dutch-born Turkish playmaker is understandable, considering the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek, and Casemiro.
In addition, Sofyan Amrabat will return to Fiorentina in the summer transfer window after a poor campaign with Manchester United. Kokcu has thus emerged as a viable target for the Red Devils. And they have the financial capacity to shell out €40 million to land the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window.
