Real Madrid and Alphonso Davies have until early April to seal their summer union, with Bayern Munich eager to have clarity over the left-back position.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, Alphonso Davies is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Bayern Munich will demand at least €50 million to part ways with the Canadian international in the summer transfer window. But the Bundesliga champions have given him and Los Blancos a deadline until early April to start finalising a move.

Alphonso Davies and his Bayern Munich journey

Alphonso Davies has been among the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. That is remarkable, considering he was a promising young winger when he arrived in Germany half a decade ago. But Hansi Flick’s brilliant idea has transformed his career.

The 23-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Bayern Munich in the last five years and has won every trophy at the club level, including five Bundesliga titles and one UEFA Champions League crown. Meanwhile, the Canadian international has turned out 184 times thus far for Die Roten, chipping in with nine goals and 28 assists.

But Davies faces an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract with Bayern Munich. Such a situation has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs, including Premier League bigwigs like Liverpool. But his likeliest destination should be Real Madrid.

Madrid Calling?

Real Madrid’s interest in Alphonso Davies is understandable. While Ferland Mendy is a dependable defender, he is not productive enough in the final third. Meanwhile, Fran Garcia is only good enough to be a backup option. So, it behoves Real Madrid to sign a well-rounded left-back.

The Bayern Munich full-back has thus emerged as a viable target for Los Blancos. But Davies has until early April to inform the Bavarian outfit of his decision, with the Bundesliga champions offering him a new contract. Early April is also the deadline for Real Madrid to submit a bid to sign the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, the German giants value him at €50 million-plus.

Despite Davies’s contract situation, €50 million seems like a fair value for a young full-back with his peak years ahead of him. But it will be interesting to see if Davies and Real Madrid respect Bayern Munich’s deadline.
