German giants Bayern Munich are interested in acquiring the services of the 22-year-old Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen.
According to a report by HITC, Bayern Munich are looking to reinforce their defence ahead of next season and they have their eyes set on Ian Maatsen. The German giants are looking for a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies and they feel the Chelsea full-back could be an ideal fit for them.
Davies’s contract at Bayern runs out in the summer of 2025. They have been pushing hard for a renewal but unfortunately, the player does not seem to be interested in extending his stay at the club.
Real Madrid are keen on having him in their ranks and the German club will most likely sanction his departure as they are unlikely to risk losing out on one of their most prized possession for free in the summer of 2025.
Bayern pushing for Maatsen to replace Davies
With Davies likely to leave, Bayern have started the search for a new left-sided full-back. Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen is one of their targets. The 22-year-old Chelsea graduate is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund and his impressive performances have attracted the interest of Bayern.
On the back of an impressive loan spell at Burnley last season, he was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2023. He stayed with the Blues for the 2023/24 season but they were unable to give him enough game time and decided to loan him out in the winter.
Dortmund were looking to reinforce their defence and they ended up signing him. Maatsen has since featured in 12 matches and he has even contributed towards three goals. He has shown signs of great promise in his short spell so far and Bayern feel he could help fill the big boots of Davies.
The Dutch youth international will return to his parent club in the summer where he will still have two years left on his deal. But, he could be on the move in the summer. Maatsen has a £35 million release clause in his Chelsea contract and it could lead to his departure. Meanwhile, Chelsea are struggling with their finances and his departure could help them balance their books.
