Manchester United will reportedly compete with Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Barcelona star Raphinha.

According to Fichajes, Premier League giants Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will square off against each other in a bid to secure the services of Barcelona attacker Raphinha in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian winger moved to Spain in 2022 following a superb spell at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa. A right-winger, Raphinha is a dynamic attacker whose ability to run at defenders and find the back of the net made him a hot commodity.

However, the £55 million move to Camp Nou came at a time when the Blaugrana were in transition. Despite winning La Liga last season, Raphinha’s time in Cataluyna has been more of a miss than a hit. Injuries and a general lack of consistency have done little to improve matters either.

Manchester United and Tottenham benefit from better finances?

At 27, Raphinha is in his prime and is keen to stay put at Barcelona. However, the club’s financial situation could force their hand, making them cash in on the Brazilian star. According to Fichajes, both Manchester United and Tottenham are willing to welcome him back to the Premier League.

The Red Devils lack a reliable winger given Jadon Sancho and Antony’s struggles. Amad Diallo is yet to make an impact while Facundo Pellistri could be on his way out. With Marcus Rashford also linked with a move, landing Raphinha could give Erik ten Hag the edge he craves in his attacking options.

However, Tottenham are also keen and Ange Postecoglou will be keen to paint the Brazilian with Son Hueng-min and Brennan Johnson. Raphinha is already familiar with the English top flight and will to need get used to it. This is good news for both clubs as they seek impact-making reinforcement

Signed for around £55 million in 2022, Barcelona went big for the South American two years ago. With a Saudi side already offering €80 million for his services, they are well placed to secure a killing in the summer market. Whether United or Tottenham are willing to get involved in a bidding war remains to be seen.
