Chelsea have asked their 24-year-old mainstay Conor Gallagher to reduce his wage demands as they look to offer him a new deal.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Chelsea are keen on having Conor Gallagher in their ranks for years to come. The Blues have been in negotiations with the 24-year-old over a new deal for a while now, but a breakthrough has not been reached yet. As a result, they have recently asked him to lower his wage demands if he wants to continue at the club.
Gallagher’s future has been the talk of the town for a while now. He has been linked with a move away from the club over the last few transfer windows but has ended up staying at the club. However, that could change in the summer.
Pochettino wants Conor Gallagher to remain at the club
The 24-year-old has worked his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and has been a regular feature under the Argentine manager. Pochettino has made it clear to the Chelsea board that he wants the England international to remain at the club. The former Tottenham boss is frustrated that his contract situation has not been taken care of yet.
Gallagher’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2025, and the Blues have been pushing hard for a new deal. But, they have limitations because of their ongoing financial situation. And, recent reports have suggested that they are looking to offload a few of their homegrown players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), having spent a fortune under new owner Todd Boehly.
Chelsea ask Gallagher to reduce his wage demands
The 24-year-old is one of the players that could be sold in the summer to raise funds and balance their books. The Blues have informed him that if he does not lower his wage demands of over £150,000 per week, they will have no option but to sanction his departure.
As per the report, Chelsea are open to letting him leave for a fee of around £50 million if they fail to tie him down to a new contract before the end of the season. Meanwhile, Gallagher has been on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking to bolster their ranks in the summer.
Ange Postecoglou wants more depth in his ranks. He is a huge admirer of the English midfielder who can feature as a six as well as a number ten. The Australian boss feels he could be an ideal fit for their club. But, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to fork out £50 million for someone who could be available for free in the summer of 2025.
