Aston Villa are leading the race to land Argentine ace Paulo Dybala
Premier League side Aston Villa have risen up the ranks under Unai Emery in the Premier League and are now eyeing a blockbuster deal that will see Argentine World Cup winner Paulo Dybala arrive in the summer.
The Villans are currently leading the race to secure the coveted fourth spot in the English top flight, earning them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Should that occur, there is every reason to believe that they can attract top talent to Villa Park.
Emery and Co. are coming off an excellent 2023 summer window that saw them sign several top players. It has paid off so far with Villa in the mix for a top-four finish and qualifying for the UEFA Conference League quarter-final where they will face French side LOSC Lille.
According to Siamo La Roma, Dybala is a man who is very much in demand. Atletico Madrid might have cooled their interest but the likes of Aston Villa and Bayer Leverkusen are still very much keen to see a deal done in the summer.
Advantage Aston Villa in Dybala pursuit?
Villa Park is not the most fashionable of destinations but as former European Champions, the Villans do attract a certain pedigree. More so, the recent rise under Emery will not be lost on players.
A versatile attacker who can serve different roles, Dybala will add experience and dynamism to the Villa attack. A match-winner, he would certainly amplify Villa’s ability to make a positive difference in close-fought games.
While Leverkusen are also in the fray, a lot could depend on what happens to them in the summer. The Germans are on course to achieve a historic treble but the future of manager Xabi Alonso is in the air. The likes of Liverpool and Bayern Munich are circling and it remains to be seen if the Spaniard will part ways with the Bundesliga leaders.
With certain players also linked with a summer move, it remains to be seen if Dybala will want to join a side that might struggle to replicate similar success with several key assets stripped out. At 30, Dybala isn’t exactly young and could even earn the big bucks by moving to the Middle East.
The Argentine has several top years left in him and a final hurrah in the Premier League would certainly boost his reputation further. Either way, ending the campaign in the top four could very well prove to be Villa’s trump card in this transfer race.
