AC Milan are eyeing a summer move for Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport via Sport Witness, Italian giants AC Milan are eyeing a deal for Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The English defender came through the ranks at Cobham and established himself in the senior squad under Thomas Tuchel. While he did get a run out under Frank Lampard, injuries and a fall from grace have seen him fall down the pecking order.
Chalobah does not appear to be in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and was linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge last summer. Limited to just six appearances across all points, Chalobah hasn’t quite pushed on and made a case for himself this season.
A false dawn?
The 24-year-old has started Chelsea’s last two league games but it is too soon to say that his fortunes are on the mend. Thiago Silva is not getting any younger while Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill have struggled with injuries. Should the duo return to action, Chalobah should once again find himself comfortable on the bench.
Capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, Chalobah is versatile enough to function as a utility man. At 24, he will enter his prime soon and in the right system can flourish. With a future at Chelsea appearing unlikely, he would be better off having a new challenge.
A beaten path
AC Milan have a good track record of helping Chelsea stars resurrect their careers in recent years. The likes of Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud have all impressed at the San Siro and there is no reason to believe that Chalobah cannot do the same.
Available for around €10-15m, the Englishman represents excellent value for money. The slower pace in Serie A could aid his skill set and could elevate his levels of performance. Whether it will come to be remains to be seen.
