Barcelona and Real Madrid have ruled out a summer move for Mason Greenwood, with his price tag of €40-60 million playing a part.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not launch the offensive to sign Mason Greenwood in the summer transfer window. The Englishman has also been a target for Barcelona, who will not pursue his signature after learning Manchester United’s asking price of €40-60 million.

Mason Greenwood and his revival

Mason Greenwood has seen his stock rise amid a solid return to football this season. The English attacker missed over a year of action due to issues off the field that required police intervention and a suspension from Manchester United. When he was free of that, the youngster signalled his intention to resume his career.

Manchester United briefly flirted with the idea of re-integrating him into the first-team squad in the 2023/24 season. But fan backlash forced their hand, compelling them to seek a loan move for the 22-year-old. Getafe came calling towards the end of the summer transfer window and completed a season-long loan move on Deadline Day.

Greenwood has been an excellent performer for Getafe this season, amassing eight goals and five assists in 27 appearances across all competitions. The young attacker’s progress at Getafe has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona and Real Madrid. But a move to either club is seemingly unlikely.

What Next?

Manchester United will demand €40-60 million to sell Mason Greenwood in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils have informed Barcelona of their price, which has convinced the Blaugrana to look elsewhere for a new attacking reinforcement.

As for Real Madrid, the Merengues are in the market for an attacker heading into the summer transfer window. But that player will not be Greenwood, with Kylian Mbappe closing in on joining Real Madrid. So, a deal worth €40-60 million for the Manchester United prospect is not on the cards.

Barcelona recently submitted an enquiry for Greenwood. But Manchester United’s valuation has priced them out of a potential move for the 22-year-old Englishman. It will be interesting to see where the youngster lands after he returns to Manchester United from his loan spell with Getafe.
