Newcastle United will reportedly have to sell at least one key player in the summer transfer window to get the ball rolling on dealings.

A report from Football Insider has claimed that Newcastle United will be under pressure to sell a top player so that they can balance the books and comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The Magpies have spent heavily in the recent transfer windows, and they would have expected to secure UEFA Champions League qualification this season. Instead, they could miss out on European football altogether, and it would be a huge blow to their revenues.

Newcastle will be hoping to avoid punishments for breaching financial regulations. So, they need to raise funds in the summer. Players like Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak have been linked with moves away from the club, and it will be interesting to see who they end up selling.

Newcastle United will have to sell a key player so that they can raise a substantial amount of money. It will certainly come as a major blow for the club, but they are powerless in this situation and a sacrifice will have to be made. Newcastle have an ambitious project and wealthy owners. However, they cannot afford to keep spending freely, and they will have to comply with the financial regulations.

Do Newcastle United need a better manager?

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle decide to change managers at the end of the season. Eddie Howe is under a lot of pressure, and he has struggled to get the best out of his squad this season.

Newcastle United have a talented squad, and they might need to bring in a proven manager who can establish them as Champions League regulars. With a few quality additions in the summer, there is no reason why they cannot finish in the top four once again.

Newcastle need to put together a functional hierarchy and backroom staff now. They will look to bring in a quality sporting director at the end of the season, with Dan Ashworth closing in on joining Manchester United. Similarly, bringing in a quality manager could also prove to be a good decision.

There is no doubt that Howe has proven himself as a decent manager in the Premier League. But Newcastle need someone with more experience and quality to win major trophies in the coming seasons. It will be difficult for them to attract quality players in the summer without Champions League football, and bringing in a reputed manager could help solve that problem.
