Manchester United receive major boost in their pursuit of Dan Ashworth as Newcastle United are ready to agree terms.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United could soon sign Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director from Newcastle United. The Red Devils had agreed terms with the 52-year-old but the Magpies wanted a hefty fee. However, they now seem willing to compromise and reach an agreement.

Ashworth has made quite a name for himself in English football thanks to his impressive work at Brighton and Newcastle. He has done some absolutely sensational work in the transfer market for both clubs and his work hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The beginning of a new era at Manchester United

While he was expected to continue at the Magpies, Manchester United are keen on having him in their ranks and they could soon sign the transfer expert. The Red Devils are all set to undergo major changes under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS who have taken charge of the club following the approval of their purchase of a minority share by the English FA.

They now have full control over United’s sporting project and their plan to bring the club back to their old glory days. Ratcliffe wants to have the best in the business work for him at Old Trafford, they have already signed Former Man City chief Omar Berrada to be the club’s new CEO and now they want Ashworth to take charge as the sporting director.

The Red Devils were in conversation with the 52-year-old and he has agreed to join United. Ashworth wants to be a part of the revolution at the Manchester-based club and he has already informed the Magpies about his intentions.

Newcastle willing to compromise

While he was immediately placed on gardening leave and the Tyneside club are on the lookout for a new sporting director, they have no intentions of letting him for free. Newcastle wanted £20 million as compensation for the departure of their transfer chief but United had no intentions of paying that big a fee.

It did look like a deal could no longer be struck between both parties but the negotiations did continue. Now, the report suggests that the Magpies are willing to compromise. They are ready to reach an agreement with the Red Devils for the departure of Ashworth. It is believed both clubs could agree to meet in the middle (£10 million) to get the deal over the line.
