Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth is all set to take charge at Manchester United with full creative license.

According to a report by Football Insider, Dan Ashworth will have a more creative role at Manchester United. The Newcastle United sporting director will get a lot of freedom to make decisions in his new role, something that hasn’t happened at his current club.

Ashworth’s impressive reputation

Ashworth has built quite a reputation for himself thanks to his impressive work at Brighton and Newcastle United. The 52-year-old has transformed both the English clubs. He has transformed their academies and changed the structure of the club and the nature of their scouting networks.

He has been in charge of the Magpies since the summer of 2022 but will soon now make the move to the Manchester-based club. While it hasn’t been made official yet, the reports suggest Ashworth has agreed to terms with the Red Devils and soon there will be an official confirmation.

Major changes happening at United

Sir Jim Ratcliffe who recently completed a minority takeover at the Manchester-based club now has full control over football operations and he is looking to make major changes behind the scenes at the club.

The Red Devils have already appointed highly-regarded former Manchester City chief Oma Berrada and soon Ashworth is expected to follow in his footsteps. Ratcliffe is keen on getting United back to the top and he is willing to shuffle things up in the background to ensure they have the structure needed to compete with the very best in the world.

They are not just appointing Ashworth as their sporting director, the Red Devils are willing to give him full creative freedom to make the necessary changes. The report suggests that he will have more autonomy in terms of recruitment at United compared to his role at Newcastle.

Not only will he be allowed to make major transfer decisions but the Magpies’ sporting director will also be given the power to get things together behind the scenes. Once the official announcement arrives, Ashworth is expected to start preparing for the first summer transfer window with the new minority owners in charge.
