Liverpool has joined the chase for Jorrel Hato, as they could eye up a move for the exciting Ajax defender, but face competition from rivals.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are closely monitoring Jorrel Hato’s situation ahead of the summer. The 18-year-old has already been touted as the future of Dutch football, and Ajax in a position of power to demand a massive fee should they sell them amid heavy interest from top Premier League sides.

Liverpool are keen on Jorrel Hato

Jorrel Hato has taken huge strides with his development and reputation this season following an impressive campaign with Ajax. Not only has he played every minute of their Eredivisie league campaign, he has also captained the side on numerous occasions, showcasing his leadership qualities at this tender age.

Ajax were dragging their heels in fear of losing the 18-year-old on the cheap during the next window, but with Hato signing a new contract, they are in a position of power. The defender’s new contract tied him down until 2028, meaning they will charge a premium fee for one of the hottest defensive prospects in the continent.

Liverpool are the latest to enter the chase for the versatile defender. The Merseysiders are keeping close tabs on his future and will make a move should all conditions favour an approach. The belief is that Hato still needs plenty of time to develop the physical side of his game, meaning there are chances of him staying at Ajax for another season before making the big switch.

Liverpool have needed a left-sided presence in their backline, and with the 18-year-old capable of playing as a full-back in games, he will add immense value. The Merseysiders are probably the only top-six side lacking a left-footed centre-back, and considering the long-term future, Hato can be the perfect signing with the view of replacing compatriot Virgil van Dijk in the future.

Barcelona are also keen, although the chances of him joining a Spanish side over a Premier League side are currently doubtful. Hence, should Liverpool make an early approach, they will certainly have the esteemed company of rivals like Arsenal and Manchester United.
