Atletico Madrid have submitted an enquiry for the services of 22-year-old Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Atletico Madrid are interested in having Mason Greenwood in their ranks. The 22-year-old winger has revived himself in the ongoing season, and there could be a bidding war for him ahead of next season.

Greenwood’s revival at Getafe

Manchester United did consider the idea of reinstating him in their first team last summer. But they decided against it following a lot of backlash. The Red Devils decided to send him out on loan to help him get himself back on track. Getafe managed to strike a deal for him, and Greenwood has been a sensational addition to their ranks.

The 22-year-old has been one of their best performers this season. He has featured in a total of 27 matches for the Spanish club and has racked up over 2,000 minutes. The Manchester United loanee has contributed towards a total of 13 goals. He has found the back of the net on eight occasions.

His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, and it has resulted in interest from clubs across Europe. Barcelona are one of the giants that have been linked with the 22-year-old. Representatives from the English clubs met the Catalan giants’ sporting director Deco to discuss future transfers, and Greenwood was one of the names that was talked about.

Atletico Madrid enquire about Greenwood

While Barcelona consider the idea of signing him, Atletico Madrid have entered the race. Diego Simeone’s team haven’t been as good this season as they are expected to be. As a result, they will look to reinforce their squad in the summer.

Greenwood is one of their targets to bolster their attack, and they have recently enquired about the 22-year-old. Atletico Madrid wanted to have more information regarding a potential deal before they could decide on whether to go ahead or not.

While there is a section of people at Manchester United who want to stick with Greenwood and give him another run at Old Trafford, those who want to sanction his departure have informed Atletico Madrid that they will have to fork out £50 million to sign him.

With his contract at Manchester United running out in the summer of 2025, that is a significant fee to ask for, and Atletico Madrid have no intentions of paying that big a fee for the 22-year-old winger.
