Barcelona are reportedly thinking long and hard about a future decision on Mikayil Faye, with Tottenham monitoring the young defender’s progress.
According to Sport, Tottenham are one of the clubs closely following the situation of Mikayil Faye. The 19-year-old wonderkid from Barcelona has been attracting massive interest from clubs in Europe and England as the Catalans ponder a decision that could affect his immediate future.
Tottenham interested in Mikayil Faye
Known as Mika Faye, the 19-year-old wonderkid has been a revelation for the Barcelona B squad and has seen a massive rise in stature over the last few months. Aliou Cisse, the Senegal manager, has called him up for the upcoming round of international fixtures, which the Catalans believe may have boosted his current market value.
There are clubs from Spain, France and England following Faye’s situation, aslnd Barcelona could think about a sale for the right price. Arsenal are one of the clubs keen, while Tottenham are now emerging as a strong contender for the 19-year-old wonderkid ahead of the summer.
Spurs are also interested in Dani Rodriguez, another of Barcelona’s exciting teenagers ahead of the summer. As for Faye, the move could get complicated first due to his commitment to the club after signing a four-year deal last summer, with a reported €400 million release clause. Secondly, his recent international call-up has made Barcelona believe his value must have improved, which could make them mull over a sale.
Tottenham might succeed in signing the 19-year-old wonderkid from the Catalan club in the summer if they try hard. Faye will want to start playing regular football at the senior level. However, looking at the current centre-back rosterl, it does feel difficult for him to break into the first-team squad.
Barcelona planning Mikayil Faye’s future
Barcelona have an array of central defenders who have seen rumours circulating that the Blaugrana could afford to sell one high-profile name. They have the returning Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet from their loans for next season, while Pau Cubarsi could also start regularly featuring with the first-team squad. They are also keen on buying back Chadi Riad, which makes the competition at the back intense.
Hence, for Faye to break into this setup, it would be a mammoth task. So, he could leave the Catalan club. Barcelona already rejected an approach from RC Lens in January, and should they sell, it will be for a reasonable price, along with the prospect of adding a buy-back or sell-on option in any potential deal, which could also see Tottenham make a move.
