Barcelona priced out of move to sign Amadou Onana

Barcelona will unlikely sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, with the Toffees not budging from their price tag of €60 million.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Amadou Onana is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Everton midfielder is also a target for Manchester United. And the Red Devils will have a clear run at the 22-year-old, with the Toffees not budging from their price tag of €60 million. That will put Barcelona out of the running to land the youngster.

Amadou Onana and his Everton Journey

Amadou Onana has established himself as one of the best young midfielders in the Premier League since joining Everton from LOSC Lille in August 2022. The Belgian international has been a pivotal figure for the Toffees amid their constant battle to remain in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old has turned out 64 times thus far for Everton, chipping in with four goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Onana’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Barcelona and Manchester United are among his prospective suitors heading into the summer transfer window.

A Man in Demand

Barcelona will delve into the market for a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window despite signing two midfielders last summer. But a closer look reveals that while Ilkay Gundogan has been an excellent addition to the Barcelona squad, Oriol Romeu has been a bit-part player for them.

So, the veteran midfielder will likely part ways with Barcelona in the summer transfer window, thus opening up a spot in the midfield department. So, Amadou Onana has emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. But the Catalan giants are not willing to pay €60 million, Everton’s asking price for the 22-year-old, having set a limit of €45 million to secure his services.

The development comes as a boost for Manchester United as they can afford to pay €60 million to land Onana. The Red Devils also need a new midfielder amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. In addition, Manchester United will unlikely complete a permanent move for Sofyan Amrabat.

Onana has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. And with Barcelona not ready to shell out €60 million to secure the Belgian midfielder’s services, the Red Devils should have a clear run at him in the summer transfer window.
