Aston Villa and West Ham United will have to pay at least €40 million to sign Pedro Goncalves from Sporting CP this summer.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Sporting CP will demand at least €40 million to part ways with Pedro Goncalves in the summer transfer window. The Portuguese forward has a release clause worth €80 million in his contract. But suitors like Aston Villa and West Ham United can sign him for around half that sum.
The Rise of Pedro Goncalves
Pedro Goncalves has been among the most productive forwards in the world since joining Sporting CP from Famalicao in August 2020. The 25-year-old has filled the void left by the departure of Bruno Fernandes earlier that year, establishing himself as a pivotal figure for his club.
In addition, the Portuguese attacker has grown in stature on the international stage, having become a regular in his national squad. Meanwhile, Goncalves is enjoying an excellent 2023/24 season, amassing 16 goals and 14 appearances in 40 appearances across all competitions thus far.
Meanwhile, the player’s progress at Sporting CP has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Widespread reports have linked him with Tottenham Hotspur, while Aston Villa and West Ham United considered securing his services in the winter transfer window. The two Premier League clubs remain interested in the Portuguese international.
Premier League Calling?
Aston Villa’s interest in Pedro Goncalves is understandable. Nicolo Zaniolo has not made his mark thus far this season, and the Villans will unlikely complete a permanent move for the Italian international. In addition, Moussa Diaby has blown hot and cold at Villa Park. So, the Sporting CP forward is a viable target for Aston Villa.
As for West Ham, they need an upgrade on Maxwel Cornet. In addition, Lucas Paqueta faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium amid Manchester City’s continued interest. Goncalves is thus an option worth considering. West Ham and Aston Villa now know how much it will take to land him, with Sporting CP demanding at least €40 million to part ways with him.
While the Portuguese international has a release clause worth €80 million in his contract, Sporting might sell him for around half that sum. But €40 million will only be a conversation starter, and his final transfer fee should be much higher if a bidding war begins.
