Manchester United are ready to battle it out with Arsenal for the services of 23-year-old American shot-stopper Patrick Schulte.

According to a report by Transfermarkt, Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in having Patrick Schulte in their ranks ahead of next season. Both clubs have been closely monitoring the 23-year-old’s progress and he could soon become the next Major League Soccer star to head to the Premier League.

Patrick Schulte’s rise at Columbus Crew

Schulte has gone from strength to strength since joining Columbus Crew in the winter of 2022. He has put in quite a few impressive performances for the American club. While he only has 11 clean sheets in his 43 outings, his progress hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The 23-year-old might be a constant feature in goal for Columbus but it seems his future lies elsewhere. With his contract running out at the end of the year, the American club are unlikely to have much power during negotiations when interested clubs come knocking.

United and Arsenal to battle for Patrick Schulte

Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in Schulte’s services. Both clubs have been monitoring his recent progress and they are considering making a move for him in the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal signed David Raya on a season-long loan ahead of the ongoing season. Mikel Arteta said he wanted Raya and Aaron Ramsdale to battle for a spot in the starting XI, but the Spanish manager prefers the Brentford shot-stopper in goal and the Gunners are all set to trigger the buy option in his contract.

Ramsdale doesn’t want to play second fiddle and should he decide to leave, Arsenal see Schulte as a possible replacement. He will cover for Raya who is expected to be their number going forward.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are also looking for another goalkeeper despite having signed two in the last summer window. Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır were the two arrivals. While Onana has been a regular feature, Bayındır has only made one appearance.

He is not happy with his game time and could leave in search of a regular first-team role. If he does leave, United will push for Schulte who is a young promising keeper and will be available for a bargain price with his contract running down.
