Barcelona will reportedly need to fork out a “crazy fee” to sign 27-year-old Colombian international Luis Diaz from Liverpool.

Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Liverpool will only let Luis Diaz leave for a “crazy fee” in the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old is the subject of interest from Barcelona. But a potential deal involving him is seemingly unlikely amid Barcelona’s never-ending financial issues.

Luis Diaz and his Liverpool Journey

Luis Diaz has been an enigmatic performer since joining Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022. The Colombian international was popular in the market before arriving in England due to his exploits in Portugal. Barcelona also briefly considered a move for him before he moved to Liverpool over two years ago.

Since then, the 27-year-old has come leaps and bounds, although his composure inside the box has been sub-par. However, his excellent runs with the ball stand out, leaving the opposition’s right-back in a daze. Diaz has enjoyed a decent 2023/24 season despite a few off-field distractions, contributing to 16 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions.

The former FC Porto attacker has found the back of the net 11 times while providing five assists. But recent reports have created needless speculation surrounding Diaz’s future, with some suggesting Liverpool might part ways with him in the summer transfer window. Such a situation has piqued the interest of Barcelona.

Barcelona Keen on Diaz

Barcelona’s interest in Luis Diaz is understandable, considering Raphinha faces an uncertain future at the club. In addition, Ferran Torres might not be a Barcelona player when the 2024/25 season kicks off. So, it behoves the Blaugrana to scour the market for a top-class wide attacker.

Diaz has thus emerged as a viable target, although recent reports have claimed that Liverpool will not sell the 27-year-old. The latest update from Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Reds want a “crazy fee” to part ways with the Colombian international in the summer transfer window, ruling Barcelona out of the running.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona will continue pursuing Diaz’s signature in the coming weeks. But a move for the Liverpool attacking mainstay is seemingly unlikely, considering the high price tag and the Reds’ unwillingness to sell.
