Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are ready to sanction the permanent departure of their 26-year-old full-back Kieran Tierney.
According to a report by GiveMeSport, Arsenal are ready to permanently offload Kieran Tierney. The 26-year-old has gone down the pecking order at the North London club. He is currently out on loan and they are looking to move him on in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Tierney’s time at the North London club
Tierney has been at Arsenal since joining them on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2019 from Celtic for a fee of £25 million. The 26-year-old had an impressive start to life in London and he was a regular feature in their first team in the initial years.
But, things took a major turn last season as the Scottish international was reduced to a secondary role. Oleksandr Zinchenko’s arrival greatly impacted his game time. The former City full-back was the preferred choice under Mikel Arteta.
The 26-year-old was keen on regular first-team action and he felt a move elsewhere could help his cause. As a result, Tierney joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan last summer. Unfortunately, nothing much has changed since joining the Spanish club, he has featured in a total of 19 matches and has racked up just over 1,100 minutes.
Arsenal ready to sanction Tierney’s departure
While the former Celtic star will return to his parent club in the summer, they are ready to sanction his departure ahead of next season. The Gunners need to trim down their squad, they will look to offload multiple players and the Scottish international is a part of that list.
With two years still left on the 26-year-old’s contract at the North London club, they are looking at a minimum of £20 million to sell him. They had invested £25 million to land him at the club back in the day and are looking to recoup it. However, it will not be easy as finding a club willing to meet their valuation could be tricky.
Celtic would love to have him back in their ranks but a move back to Scotland is unlikely to raise the kind of amount Arsenal want. While there is interest from other clubs as well, nothing concrete has happened yet.
