Everton are front-runners for the signatures of 16-year-old Irish attacking sensation Mason Melia amidst interest from rivals Liverpool.
According to a report by Football Insider, Everton are keen on having Mason Melia in their ranks. The 16-year-old sensation has made quite a name for himself and top clubs from across Europe are interested in acquiring his services.
Melia’s impressive rise
Melia joined Irish club St Patrick’s Athletic in the summer of 2022. He went up the ranks at some pace and made it to their first team at the start of 2023. Despite being just 16, the Irish wonderkid has already featured in 20 matches for the first team and also has six goal contributions to his name.
The teenage striker’s impressive rise hasn’t gone unnoticed. There is a lot of interest in the services of the teenager who is considered to be one of the best young talents to emerge from Ireland.
Melia might have a contract with the Irish club that runs until the end of 2026 but there is a real possibility of him making a move to a bigger club in the upcoming window. A number of Premier League clubs are interested in the 16-year-old.
Liverpool to battle it out with Everton for Melia
Liverpool are one of the clubs that have been linked with him. They had a strong interest in his services and were quite keen on having him in their ranks in March last year. While 12 months have passed, the Reds could still revive their interest in the teenager as he seems to be a great future prospect.
Even if they do, they will still be behind rivals Everton who are currently leading the race for his signatures. Talks between the Merseyside club and the player’s representatives are underway as the Toffees look to strike a deal with him ahead of the summer transfer window.
Everton feel Melia is a huge prospect for the future and they do not want to miss out on him. As a result, they want to strike a deal before the window starts in order to avoid competition from other top clubs.
