La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly considering a Bosman move for 32-year-old Arsenal midfielder Jorginho.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Jorginho is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions are in the market for a holding midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the Arsenal midfielder, who might be open to joining them.

Jorginho and his Arsenal Journey Thus Far

Jorginho has been a solid performer for Arsenal since completing a shock move from Chelsea in January 2023, penning a £110,000-a-week deal. The Italian international arrived at the Emirates as a short-term solution due to the fitness issues plaguing Thomas Partey. And he has deputised well for the Ghanaian international in the last 12 months.

The 32-year-old has turned out 26 times thus far for Arsenal this season, chipping in with one goal and one assist. But Jorginho’s future at the North London club is uncertain as he has entered the final six months of his contract. Such a situation has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs.

Widespread reports have suggested that a return to Serie A might be on the cards, with Juventus keen on signing him. But a move to La Liga might also present itself as an opportunity for the experienced Arsenal midfielder, with Barcelona looking to secure his services.

Barcelona Calling?

Barcelona briefly considered signing Jorginho in the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Oriol Romeu. But a move did not materialise, with the Blaugrana ruling out a deal late in the window. However, they remain interested in landing him heading into the summer transfer window.

The Catalan outfit will likely part ways with Romeu in the summer transfer window. So, Jorginho has emerged as a viable target for Barcelona. And the report suggests that the Arsenal midfielder is open to joining the Blaugrana in a Bosman move.

It is unclear if Barcelona will match Jorginho’s £110,000-a-week wages if they secure his services. Meanwhile, Arsenal might look to tie him to a new short-term contract. So, it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the 32-year-old Italian international.
