Manchester United could decide against selling their 24-year-old Brazilian winger Antony with Erik ten Hag ready to throw him a lifeline.

According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United could be ready to persist with Antony as Erik ten Hag still believes there is a place for the Brazilian in his squad. While he has been struggling for form since the start of the season, the Dutch manager is still willing to back him.

Ten Hag was the one who insisted on having the 24-year-old in his ranks and that is why Manchester United forked out £85 million including add-ons to land him at the club back in 2022. Since joining the English giants, Antony hasn’t really clicked.

Antony’s struggle & United’s stance

He did have a decent season last time out but things haven’t been any good this time out. In his 27 appearances in all competitions, he only has a goal and an assist. His poor form has been a cause of concern and it has resulted in him being linked with a move away from the club. Reports suggest the club are considering parting ways with the Brazilian.

Meanwhile, Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have completed their purchase of a minority stake in the club. They now have full control over the sporting decisions of the club. They are expected to make quite a few moves in the summer and there could be a lot of exits as well.

Erik ten Hag’s future linked with Antony’s

Antony is one of the names that could leave but his future will depend on Erik ten Hag’s future. The Dutchman has been under scrutiny for a while now and his job isn’t really safe. And, if they decide to sack him, the Brazilian international could then be sold.

But, if the Dutch manager stays in his role heading into the next season, he will back Antony and keep him in his squad. Ten Hag is a huge fan of the 24-year-old and feels he could turn things around. As a result, it will be interesting to see what happens from here on.
